If you want to know the record holder for the stinkiest animal in the world, then you're in the right place. The Striped Polecat holds the title of the worst smelling animal. The Guinness Book of Animal Records claims a zorilla once kept nine lions at bay while it was scavenging their kill, to illustrate the claim it is indeed the worst-smelling animal. The Striped Polecat (Ictonyx striatus, also called Zorilla) somewhat resembles a skunk. It is found in savannahs and open country in sub-saharan Africa excluding the Congo basin and west Africa. There is a spotted skunk in Africa which is also called a "zorillo." Their spray smells the same as the spray from other skunks such as the striped skunk because it is the same chemical compound.
How about the stinkiest smells? Among the egregiously offensive animal-related smells we uncovered were: burnt human hair, rotting cadavers, bodily excretions, and even a Border Collie's stale breath. Sifting through the various food-related foul odors, we came across these repeat offenders: moldy cheese, boiled cabbage, bacon grease, and at the top of the heap, garbage piles.
